Southend University Hospital SSD department

The original main basement switchgear located in the Sterile Services Department (SSD) that was installed in the 1960s was in need of urgent replacement and a tender was sent out to replace it.

We had replaced similar difficult sections of switchgear in the past at Southend University Hospital and successfully won another tender for the SSD switchgear replacement.

The switchgear consisted of original Ottermill loose switchgear and bus bar arrangement which was all replaced with Merlin Gerin Powerpact 4 MCCB Distribution Boards.

As per previously completed projects, down times were kept to an absolute minimum by carefully coordinated and engineered shutdowns and temporary supplies to a very busy working and fully occupied hospital.

Additional resilience was installed to ensure that the network was as robust as possible as outgoing supplies fed operating theatres and other critical areas of the hospital.
